The drain function is combined with the spin function in a Maytag washer. The motor will turn in the opposite direction for that of wash and the pump will pump water to the drain hose.
The duration of the drain function is programmed into the timer, there are no sensors to tell the timer when the tub has drained. A liberal amount of time (2 or 3 minutes) is allotted for the pump to completely drain a full tub. If complete draining does not occur in that length of time, check the drain hosed for kinks, the pump for obstructions and proper functioning. If it does not drain at all, check the operation of the pump and also its drive belt.
