Icemaker Stopped Making Ice

Possible Causes:

A thermostat allows the icemaker to operate only when the temperature is below 10 degrees F. This is frequently your early warning that something is going wrong elsewhere in the refrigerator. Two things come to mind immediately: (1) the defrost system has failed and (2) the condenser fan is not working.

Things to Do:

  1. Put a thermometer in the freezer section and verify that the temperature is around 0 deg F.
  2. Look for frost in the back of the freezer section. If you see some, the refrigerator defrost system may have failed.
  3. Put your hand down in front under the refrigerator door to see if air is coming out when the compressor is running. If there is no air movement, the condenser fan motor may need replacement.
