The customer complained that her washer would not spin all of the water out of the clothes. Sometimes it would, but most of the time it wouldn't. The most dreaded situation for repair people - the intermittent problem!
The anti-siphon valve, the belts, the motor tension springs - all were checked or substituted with no joy. Finally, in desperation, the tub outlet was checked for blockage. Lo and behold, a penny was positioned in the tub drain tube such that it operated like a butterfly valve with random opening. The drain tube is crimped just enough so a penny cannot pass down to the pump. The penny was removed and the drain hose replaced to cure the problem.
