Lid Switch
Raising the lid on a Maytag washer will stop it, no matter whatcycle it is in. Opening the lid opens the lid switch which removespower from the machine. The lid microswitch actuator is mechanicallylinked to the lid by the plunger rod. If the microswitch housingslides back in its mount, closing the lid will not close the switchand the washer won't operate.

Lid Switch Adjustment Procedure
- Unplug the washer.
- Remove the two screws from the top of the control console back shell and remove it.
- Look behind the control console and locate the black retangular microswitch down below the timer.
- Loosen the two screws securing the microswitch with a 1/4 inch nut driver.
- Slide the microswitch towards the lid or front of the washer to allow the plunger to activate the switch when the lid is lowered. Adjust to provide a "click" a couple of inches before the lid is down.
- Replace the console back shell and check for proper operation.
