Maytag Lid Hinge Balls

Maytag engineered one of the most clever and durable hinges for their washers. Two soft plastic balls are captured in indentations between the lid and the cabinet top. If your washer lid is loose, the plastic ball hinges are gone and must be replaced because the lid switch plunger will be out and the washer will not run.

Lid Ball Replacement Procedure

  1. Purchase a package (lifetime supply of about one dozen) of lid balls.
  2. Position one ball in its detents in the cabinet and the left side of the lid
  3. Keep pressure on the first ball while positioning the second ball in the cabinet detent and lining up the right hand lid detent with the ball.
  4. (Figure 1) Use the palm of your right hand to jam the vertical lid down into place.
