The drain function occurs after the agitate cycle and during spin in a GE washer. The motor will turn in the opposite direction for that of wash and the pump will pump water to the drain hose.
The duration of the drain function is programmed into the timer. There are no sensors to tell the timer when the tub has drained. A liberal amount of time (2 or 3 minutes) is allowed for the pump to completely drain a full tub.
