Draining

Direct-drive washers have a "neutral" drain mode built into the transmission. To "shift" into the "neutral" drain mode, the motor must come to a complete stop after the agitate cycle and then start turning in a clockwise direction. The transmission is on one end of the drive motor and the pump is on the other end. When the transmission is in "neutral", the washer does nothing - neither spin nor agitate. However, when the pump impellers are turned in the clockwise direction, they pump water out of the washer into the drain.

The duration of the drain function is programmed into the timer. There are no sensors to tell the timer when the tub has drained. A liberal amount of time (2 or 3 minutes) is allowed for the pump to completely drain a full tub.
